Hugo Mansvelt | A Path to Glory

Starting Active

Hugo Mansvelt, at 17 years old, is steadily rising through the ranks of amateur boxing, having had 18 fights within only 2 years of boxing. Training out of Box Office Boxing in Taranaki, New Zealand, Hugo’s journey into the sport has been shaped by his family and a deep passion to succeed in the ring.

A Family Affair

Boxing wasn’t a sport Hugo initially sought out, but it was one he grew up with. His older brother Flynn took to the sport first, and Hugo was always around it, watching and learning. His mother encouraged him and his brothers to get involved in combat sports, and after starting at a young age, Hugo finally took it seriously at 14. He quickly fell in love with the sport, and by April 2023, he began competing.

Ambitions for the Future

Hugo has big goals for 2025. He is working toward winning national titles, including the New Zealand Championships and the Australian Golden Gloves, where he earned a silver medal last year. His aspirations extend beyond the amateur circuit, with plans to move to Australia to pursue boxing even further and ultimately turn professional. Hugo dreams of becoming a world champion, and his focus is unwavering as he works toward that future.

A Fighter’s Inspiration

Among Hugo’s boxing inspirations are Gennady “Triple G” Golovkin and Jai Opetaia. He admires Golovkin’s technical skill and his ability to dominate the ring with his fierce style. Opetaia, on the other hand, inspires Hugo with his mindset toward boxing — his dedication to the sport and his determination to provide for his family. These influences shape Hugo’s own approach to the sport, pushing him to become better each day.

The Hard Work Behind the Dream

Hugo loves the challenges boxing presents. For him, the most rewarding part of the sport is pushing himself past his limits in training, striving to improve each and every day. However, not everything about boxing is easy. Hugo admits that running and cutting weight are the most difficult aspects of the sport, but he understands they are necessary hurdles on the path to success.

Building a Legacy

Hugo’s ultimate goal is to be remembered for his fearlessness and greatness in the sport of boxing. He hopes to inspire others through his dedication and drive, showing that with the right mindset, anything is possible. Hugo is on a path that’s only just beginning, and his journey in the sport promises to be one worth following.
