Slade Gray | Triumph over Tragedy
A Steady Rise
Slade Gray, a 14-year-old boxer from Gympie, Queensland, has already established herself as a rising talent in the sport, having already accumulated 22 fights, with 15 victories. Training at Impact Boxing and Fitness Centre, Slade's boxing journey started when she was just 4 years old, but it was through her personal experiences and the guidance of those around her that her passion for boxing truly took off.
From Personal Struggles to a Passion for Boxing
Slade’s path into boxing was influenced by her mother, who enrolled her in the sport following the tragic passing of her older sister. What began as a way to help her cope with loss, quickly became something Slade was drawn to for its own rewards. Growing up surrounded by seasoned amateurs, Slade found herself inspired by their dedication and work ethic. Under the mentorship of her coach, Mark Evan, whom she refers to as her “boxing dad,” Slade’s love for boxing deepened, and her goal of reaching the Olympics began to take shape.

Slade’s ambitions are clear. Her eyes are set on winning gold at the 2032 Olympics in Brisbane. With a solid amateur career already in place, she aims to represent Australia on the world stage, competing in world championships to showcase her talent and determination. Her confidence in her future success is unshakeable, and she’s committed to doing whatever it takes to achieve her dreams.
Inspired by the Best
Slade draws inspiration from current IBF Cruiserweight World Champion, Jai Opetaia. Not only does she admire Opetaia’s skill in the ring, but she’s also motivated by the kind of person he is outside of it. Having met Jai in person, Slade is moved by his willingness to connect with fans and share his experiences. It’s this combination of skill and humility that makes Jai a true role model for Slade, someone she aspires to emulate both inside and outside the ring.
The Unwavering Work Ethic Behind Success
What keeps Slade going in boxing is the challenge it offers. She understands that to become the best, she must push herself every single day. Boxing is a test of mental and physical strength, and Slade thrives on that challenge. She knows that while her coach can provide guidance, the real work comes from within. The sport can bring both high moments of achievement and low points of doubt, but it’s up to the individual whether they push through or give up, and Slade is determined to keep pushing.

Though boxing takes up most of her time, Slade enjoys spending time on her dirt bike and baking. These hobbies help her unwind, but it’s clear that boxing never escapes her mind. Her drive is to break barriers for young girls in the sport and show that no dream is too big.
Hard Work Pays Off
Slade’s victory to become the Australian Champion for under-15, 48kg, was a monumental achievement in her young career. It’s a testament to her hard work and dedication, especially considering the challenges of competing in a sport that has fewer female participants. With this victory, Slade has proven that hard work and persistence lead to success. For Slade, this win wasn’t just about the title; it was about validating her commitment to the sport and the people who’ve supported her along the way.
With her sights set on the Olympics and a future full of promise, Slade Gray is a boxer to watch. Her journey is one of hard work, resilience, and an unwavering belief in herself.
