Jovani Cruz | Led by Faith

Moving Fast

Jovani “G-Man” Cruz from Grand Prairie, Texas, is already making a name for himself in the amateur boxing scene. The 13-year-old trains out of Rock Boxing Academy, and he has already amassed over 60 amateur fights. Jovani’s journey began early, fueled by family ties and a fierce passion for the sport. From the moment he first laced up gloves, it was clear this wasn’t just a hobby, it was his calling.

Born Into Boxing

Boxing runs deep in Jovani’s family history. His dad trained with Coach Pete Rojas, and even before Jovani was born, his dad had a pair of gloves ready for him. When he first stepped into Rock Boxing Academy at age 7, he was captivated by the atmosphere — the sounds, the energy, the focus. Less than a year later, after dropping from 85 pounds to 60, he was ready to fight. The gym quickly became a second home, and every training session helped build his discipline, confidence, and love for the sport.

Pursuit of Greatness

Jovani is determined to win national titles and earn a spot on the Junior USA Team to represent his country on the world stage. His long-term dream is to join the USA Elite squad, and eventually compete in the Olympics. After that, all that's left is to turn pro and chase glory, while representing his faith, family, and country at every step.

He studies the techniques and styles of top amateurs like Omari Jones and Jahmal Harvey, as well as pros like Vergil Ortiz and Canelo. Each fighter brings something unique, and Jovani uses their examples to sharpen his own skills, making him the best fighter he can be.

The Value of Character and Mental Strength

While boxing drives him, Jovani has other passions too. He enjoys video games, drawing, playing the trumpet, acting, and building his YouTube channel — all creative outlets that keep him balanced and grounded. These hobbies give him a chance to relax and express himself outside the gym, reminding him there’s more to life than just boxing. They also help him connect with friends and family, keeping his mind sharp and his spirit positive.

Jovani knows that boxing isn’t just about physical strength, it’s also about mental toughness. He trains his mind as much as his body, practicing focus, resilience, and the ability to stay calm under pressure. Losses don’t discourage him; they motivate him to learn and improve. His strong faith plays a huge role in helping him maintain perspective and purpose through every high and low.

Inspired to Leave a Legacy

Jovani wants to be remembered as an exciting fighter who always put on great fights. His two grandfathers, who passed away in recent years, were his biggest supporters and taught him the values of hard work and determination. Their memory drives him to push harder every day. Supported by his loving family, including his sister Emma, Jovani knows he’s never alone in his journey. With their encouragement, he’s only just getting started, and there's no doubt that the sky’s the limit for the G-Man.
